À boa maneira jamaicana vários dj's de lisboa de diferentes colectivos decidiram partilhar o seu gosto pelo reggae, dub e suas extensões.  Assim, Selecta Lexo (Raska) junta-se a Mike Stellar e João Gomes (Spaceboys/Cool Hipnoise) da Journeys, e a j.ahdub, um freelancer com amor às cores do dub, sempre acompanhados por Prince Wadada no papel de mestre de cerimónias. Todas as suas actuações têm sido excitantes, com especial destaque para a noite fabulosa em Setúbal no ADN, não podendo esquecer a actuação no campeonato do mundo de Surf na Ericeira no contagiante evento da Yorn (Yorn Oasis Experience), onde se sentiu a força cada vez presente do dub e do reggae, que não olha a tribos e apresenta uma transversatilidade única no panorama musical português. A sua recente actuação no Festival Dubtronic deixou marcas e confirmou a força deste soundsystem nacional, onde o dub e o reggae assumem todas as formas possíveis tal a complementaridade entre os membro do Soundsystem.

Dia 23 de dezembro a maior movimentação que hoje representa a massificação do público jovem nos principais shows do eixo Rio São Paulo vai invadir o Moinho São Roque em Curitiba, reunindo dois grandes representantes da música de raiz, o Forró e o Reggae, dentro do Projeto FORRÉGGAE - CONEXÃO RIO MARANHÃO, que desta vez apresentará 02 mestres desta fusão musical...

RAS BERNARDO; o 1º artista brasileiro a representar o Brasil no maior festival de reggae do mundo... o "Sunsplash Festival". O cantor e compositor consagrado, original Cidade Negra, neste show de lançamento de seu novo CD "JAH É LUZ", apresenta em seu repertório de 1:20hs, o mais puro reggae e suas ramificações, variando entre os estilos: Reggae Roots, Reggae Lover, Reggae Pop e Forreggae.

CÉSAR NASCIMENTO; mais conhecido como o Rei do Reggae Sanfonado - Um dos principais representantes da Jamaica Brasileira (São Luís do Maranhão), lançando seu CD "PESCADOR DE SEREIA". Fusões rítmicas divididas em medleys, de Tambor de Crioula, Bumba meu Boi, Tribo de Índio, Mina Bolero, Maracatu, Forró, Xote, Baião e o mais autêntico Reggae Sanfonado.

E para abrir e fechar este encontro cultural, ANDRÉ DA LAGOA, atualmente o DJ mais requisitado no Rio de Janeiro e considerado um dos principais divulgadores da Música Popular Brasileira na região, principalmente no que se refere a reggae e forró. SKATALITES 2000: nuevo disco: "Bashaka" en Marlston Records LLOYD BREVETT - CONTRABAJO LLOYD KNIBBS - BATERMA CEDRIC "I4M" BROOKS -SAXO LESTER STERLING - SAXO DOREEN SHAEFFER - VOCAL DEVON JAMES - GUITARRA KEN STEWART - TECLADOS MARK BERNEY - TROMPETA WILL CLARK - TROMBSN Thomas McCook, Roland Alphonso, Don Drummond, Lester Sterling, Johnny Dizzy Moore, Lloyd Brevett, Lloyd Knibbs, Jerome Haines y Jackie Mittoo, fueron los nueve componentes habituales de la banda que revolucions la mzsica jamaicana desde sus cimiento, el ska. Desde su primera aparicisn como Skatalites el 27 de junio de 1964 en el club Hi-Hat de Kingston, ska y Skatalites son tirminos inseparables; le dieron su forma definitiva. En su corta pero intensa andadura, encontramos a Skatalites como banda de estudio de la mayorma de grabaciones de la ipoca, sin ser un grupo cerrado sino un combo articulado en funcisn de la disponibilidad de los mzsicos o las necesidades del productor. Tanto en estudio como en alguno de sus directos al aire libre o en hoteles, teatros y clubs como Bournemouth o Orange Bowl en Kingston, el Calypso en Falmouth o el Embassy en Montego Bay, acompaqaron a la practica totalidad de los vocalistas jamaicanos, siendo sus habituales en concierto Doreen Shaefer, lord Tanamo, Tony Da Costa y Jackie Opel. El management de la banda corrma a cargo de Ken Lack y, en ocasiones, del actual primer ministro de Jamaica, P.J.Patterson. Varios miembros de la banda fueron introduciendo conceptos de Rastafari en su mzsica, fruto de sus contactos con las comunidades rastas. Tommy McCook (saxo) nos contaba que solma ir a reuniones rastas en los 40...En el 48, 49 con Count Ossie. Lloyd Knibbs (baterma) atribuye su estilo al hecho de que frecuentaba las reuniones de Sam Brown en Spanish Town Road y Weststreet Corner, llevando mis percusiones. La gente cantaba y yo tocaba los tambores burru. Eso me enseqs mucho. Por su parte, Drummond (trombsn) vivma sus creencias conforme a su caracter mas introvertido y depresivo, un hecho que le alejaba de las grabaciones en permodos intermitentes, en los que recibma tratamiento psiquiatrico. Compuso piezas como Addis Ababa y Reburial, inspirada ista en la repatriacisn desde Londres de los restos de Marcus Garvey en 1964. La noche del 31 de diciembre de ese aqo supuso un duro golpe para nuestros protagonistas: en un ataque de celos, Drummond, lmder e inspirador indiscutible de la banda, asesina a su novia y es recluido en un sanatorio mental donde se suicids el 6 de mayo de 1969. En agosto de 1965 hacen su zltima aparicisn en un baile de la policma en el Runaway bay Hotel, segzn palabras de McCook. Knibbs y Moore la sitzan en el Glass Bucket Club, tras celebrar el primer aniversario de la banda (27/6/65). A partir de entonces sus caminos divergen en dos direcciones: por un lado, los Soul Brothers liderados por Roland Alphonso (saxo) y vinculados a Studio One y, por otro, los Supersonics de Tommy McCook ejerciendo para Duke Reid en Treasure Isle. Sslo Knibbs abandona la mzsica popular momentaneamente para tocar en cruceros turmsticos a partir de 1966. Sin embargo, ninguno de ellos dejara de estar presente en el futuro devenir de la mzsica jamaicana. La siguiente reunisn de una gran parte de los mzsicos originales no ocurre hasta 1975 (una vez superados los infartos de Alphonso a principios de los setenta), cuando se reznen con el viejo amigo Ernest Ranglin (guitarra) y mzsicos cruciales del reggae como el baterma Leroy Horsemouth Wallace, Augustus Pablo y Ras Michael, en unas sesiones de reggae instrumental producidas por Lloyd Brevett(bajista) y Clive Azul Hunt, titulado African Roots, que tendra su versisn dub con mezclas de King Tubby producidas por Glen Darby (ex-Scorchers). Tendra que transcurrir casi otra dicada mas (los miembros de Skatalites se dispersan entre EEUU, Canada, Inglaterra y Jamaica, acompaqando a mzsicos de reggae de fama internacional), para que en 1983 activen la banda con motivo de su actuacisn en el Reggae Sunsplash, que se alargara con actuaciones por Kingston, siendo las mas conocidas las dos noches en la Blue Monk Jazz Gallery, debido a la comercializacisn de estas grabaciones piratas por parte de ROIR. Al aqo siguiente, entran en estudio junto a Gladstone Anderson y Dwight Pinckney y mzsicos de nuevas generaciones como Calvin Cameron o Arnold Backenridge, para registrar los ocho temas que conforman el recio Return Of The Big Guns. A partir de entonces, la dispersisn volvis a marcar el fin como agrupacisn. Si la salud de Alphonso ya dio tempranos sustos, fue el mas joven de ellos, Jackie Mitoo (teclista), el primero en fallecer el 16 de diciembre de 1990. Una muerte que dara paso, tan sslo por coincidencia temporal, a un nuevo reencuentro de cinco de sus miembros originales para relanzar el combo: McCook, Alphonso, Lester Sterling (saxo) , Brevett y Knibbs, reforzados por jazzmen norteamericanos (Natham Breedlove, Bill Smith o Willie Clarke) y los vocalistas Doreen Shaefer y Devon James. Esta formacisn posibilita la primera gira europea de Skatalites en 1992. Su primera gira espaqola fue la siguiente de 1993 pero, desgraciadamente, no pudimos disfrutar del saxo de McCook, retirado tras una importante operacisn de corazsn. Fue tambiin el aqo de su esperado regreso al estudio de grabacisn con Ska Voo Vee, sin Roland Alphonso pero con la suculenta compensacisn de Ron Wilson soplando su trombsn en un par de temas. Para su siguiente trabajo, Hi Bop Ska (94), la nsmina de colaboradores se hace mas suculenta: Toots Hibbert, Prince Buster, Lester Bowie, David Murray, Monty Alexander, Val Douglas o Larry McDonald, redondean una obra que explora diferentes posibilidades del sonido Skatalites. Dos aqos mas tarde, llegara Greetings From Skamania con un concepto mas modesto y parco en colaboraciones, con la excepcisn de Steve Turre ya presente en los dos trabajos anteriores. Su cuarto album en los noventa, es, por el momento, Ball Of Fire (97), una recreacisn de algunos de sus temas mas emblematicos por encargo de Island Jamaica Jazz. Tommy McCook, ya alejado desde hacma tiempo de los escenarios, no particips en este trabajo; su ya fragil salud se irma debilitando hasta su muerte el 5 de mayo de 1998. Ese mismo aqo, el 19 de noviembre, morma tambiin Roland Alphonso al sorprenderle, unos dmas antes, un definitivo infarto mientras actuaba junto a sus compaqeros en Hollywood. El legado de estos cuatro albumes sera la muestra irrefutable de su intacta genialidad por fin libre de las exigencias comerciales de los productores. El remanente de los Skatalites sigue activo, con la presencia en el frente de los originales LLoyd Brevett, Lester Sterling, Lloyd Kinibbs y el legendario saxofonista de los tiempos de Count Ossie, Cedric "I4m" Brooks y dispuesto a mantener la sabidurma y el sonido de los maestros. El excepcional conjunto de su obra, sus solos delicados y su sencillez como artistas y trabajadores, los sitza en un puesto de honor en el Olimpo de los mzsicos e instrumentistas de este siglo.
