P.M.: Mad Professor ?

M.P.: Hello there...

P.M.: Hello, how are you ??

M.P.: I`m cool,everything just fine.

P.M.: Where are you right now ?

M.P.: I`m just outside Porto, in a town ...how it call  ...Vila do Conde ,yeah .

P.M.: You gonna perform tonight... Can we talk about> that ?

M.P.: Yeah, you know it`s a Dub show,a live Dub show,  we do live mixing, we mix old and new Ariwa  material, and i have a couple of performers as well -  Nolan Irie, Comforte and Zakeia.

P.M.: And the show is on semana da Juventude in Vila  do Conde, right ?

M.P.: This show tonight is on the beach.

P.M.: Really on the beach !!! Great...

M.P.: Yeah Man,you gotta come, get a Helicopter and  make it ...

P.M.: Laughs....and it`s cold in Vila do Conde ?

M.P.: We were doing some checks about 6pm and it was a> little freezing, yeah.

P.M.: Ok ,let`s talk about Ariwa`s new releases,  last July you have released the CD “Good Virartions”> from Shaloma, that we are hearing the Dub Versions of right  now, talk to us about her and this CD ?

M.P.: Well, Shaloma is a young lady who came to me in  1993, before then she was singing with a group called “Natural Beauty” and they had a Hit caedll “Nice up  Dancee”- this was in the eighties, so she came to me  and she had some lovers songs ...she wanted to do  some roots songs too... and yeah, this album is a  collection of recordings from the time she came to me,  it's material that has gotten a lot of good  reactions.

P.M.: Yeah,, let me tell you that is good material !!!

M.P.: Specially Good Vibrations...

P.M.: It`s true, there is a special track that i  enjoy very much it's called “Look into my Eyes" It is a  brilliant Lovers Rock....> >

M.P.: Yeah man...

P.M.: Ok let us know about Ariwa`s new releases right  now in September ?

M.P.: Right, the first one is from the   “Revolutionay Dub Warriors,” an album caled   “Dub Fusion”,and we have old releases, if you`ve seen our webpage, that is www.ariwa.com we have “Dub me crazy  Part 8” - never been released before, we also have “Man and the Machine” with The Robotiks - never been  released before, ”My computer is acting Strange” never  been released before too ...

P.M.: A lot of new things in September !!!

M.P.: Yeah, we were just in the studio recording new albuns,> we finished a new album from Lee “Scratch” Perry the album just called “Techno Party”.

P.M.: It`s a new type of Dub, right ? Talk us about> that...

M.P.: Well is a cross between Tri Hip-Hop, Techno,> Dub, it's a fusion album, very very progressive and its got> a lot of sound effects.

P.M.: How is working with Lee Perry, a legend from  the sixties, how is it working with him ?

M.P.: Well you know, is cool yeah, is like working  with people you`ve got to work, you don`t think in  legends, you got to think that it's people that you are  recording with, of course you got to respect them.

P.M.: What about new roots songs ?

M.P.: Roots songs, well, there`s a new Starky Banton  album that i`m just finishing - i hope this week... There`s a new Chukki Starr album that i`m putting tracks on...Macka B is also working new stuff for an   album .

P.M.: To be released this year ?

M.P.: Maybe the Starky Banton is the only one .

P.M.: Chukki Starr and Macka B on the next millenium> ?

M.P.: Yeah, you know to release things now for this  year it's got to be finished recording already, and we are finishing the stage peformances, because we need  2,3 months to get properly, and there`s no rushing   it ,i`m busy on the road, and i`m busy in a lot of  productions.

P.M.: Let`s talk about Massive Attack ,they`ve  performed this Summer on Sudoeste Festival here in  Portugal, you have already worked with them right ?

M.P.: Many times. Many tracks, many   singles, remixes, yeah lots of stuff.

P.M.: I`ve got to ask you what you think about Portugal  ,the people , the food ?

M.P.: Well the food is nice, the people are very  friendly and they seem very intelligent, especially the  young people, and the women are very beautiful (laughs..)

P.M.:Yes they are (Laughs)...

M.P.: Well, i only been on the north of Portugal, and it seems nice.

P.M.: You got to come to the south of Portugal, lots of  sun,the weather is great, beaches, great places, I hope  one day to perform too, you got come to the south one day...

M.P.: They`ve asked me to come back on the 8th of  November .

P.M.: Where ?

M.P.: To do a performance here on the north of  Portugal too, so maybe if it's possible I might be able  to link a trip down to Algarve.

P.M.: Yeah man, you got come here to the radio station so we can we make a live and direct interview .

M.P.: Yeah man, off course.

P.M.: But where is ti gonna be, that performance on the 8th of November ?

M.P.: Is somewhere here in this part of town, we keep in touch and i`ll tell you.

P.M.: It seems that on the north of Portugal the people are enjoying very much your work ?

M.P.: Yes, i think so, we have some fans here (laughs).

P.M.:After this performance tonight, you'll go back to England or you're gonna perform in other places ?

M.P.: I`m back to England, back in the studio.

P.M.:You gonna perform at 11pm, right ? (was 9.45 pm)

M.P.: Right.

P.M.: Last question, tell me one of your preferred  songs, or artists, or bands that you have produced in your 20 years  career ??? I know that is a difficult question but ....

M.P.: That`s an unfair question (laughs),totally  unfair, because you know if i say U-Roy than you  know,it's not fair, cause Lee Perry is great ...

P.M..: You have worked with Bob Andy too, right ? Bob Andy is a great great Artist.

M.P.: Yeah a lot of them, i think that is for the listeners to answer that, for me they are all  interesting in their ways.

P.M.: Yeah it`s true,i can tell you that one of my  favourite artists that you`ve produced is John McLean, ,he's really great.

M.P.: Yes it's true, well there is his album on CD right  now in September,i think he is working with a> Portuguese artist.

P.M.: Really, who ?

M.P.: Is there any Portuguese DJ who`s been recording  in Jamaica, recently ?

P.M.: I don`t know, i can`t answer you that, i don`t> know.

M.P.: He told me that was a Portuguese DJ...

P.M.: Maybe someone from the Portuguese Reggae Band - Kussondulola ?

M.P.: No, i think he is a solo act or something, right now i don`t remember his name .(later we find out  that was General D.)

P.M.: Ok,for me and i think for the listeners too it's been a pleasure being with you direct tonight on the show, the BEST for you, a BIG RESPECT and Thanks.

M.P.: Thanks to,i call you Pablo or Paul (Laughs) ?

P.M.: Paulo, Paulo (laughs).

M.P.: Nice one Paulo, Dub you crazy.
